In our first 9 weeks we will be focusing on 'Building a Reading Life' and 'Creating true Stories' with our writing. In social studies we will be covering government.

This can be broken down by:

  • Creating reading and writing stamina goals
  • Identify reading level and interest
  • Increase writing volume and generate many writing ideas
  • Introducing government vocabulary and concepts

Reading, Writing, and social studies

  • Encourage your child to read about 20 minutes each day. This can be together, through an audio book, or independently.
  • Discuss memories and practice telling stories together.
  • Make connections with your child about what they're reading and writing.
  • Discuss ways the government shows up in our daily lives.

Math and science

In the first 9 weeks we will be focusing on place value. Students will be exploring and comparing numbers up to 100,000.

In science, we will be observing and measuring matter. We will also dive into our Solar System and study the relationship between the Earth, Sun, and Moon.

The first 9 weeks is all about understanding and working with numbers. Ask your student the following questions about numbers:

  • What is the value of the 4 in this number?
  • What is 10 more? 100 more? 10 less? 100 less?
  • What are 2 ways to decompose this number?
  • Which number is greater? How do you know?

Classroom Expectations

Birthdays are so special! If you would like to send treats for the class on your students birthday that is fine. They just need to be storebought and have enough for all 18 students in the class.

On the first day of school we will set up a Treatment Agreement between myself, students, and the school. This will be referred to for behavior throughout the year.
